5/3/2006 - Wallace E. Saxton Jr., age 79, of 7439 South Ridge Point, Homosassa Springs, Fla., went home to be with the Lord at 11:40 p.m., on April 29, 2006. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 58 years, Joyce Sherman Saxton. Mr. Saxton is also survived by four children: Beverly Mahoney of Lynchburg, Va., Lynn Rufrano (husband, Ron Rufrano) of Ebensburg, Pa., Wayne Saxton (wife, Julie Saxton) of Frewsburg, and Darrin Saxton (wife, Penny Saxton) of Beaverdam, Va. His seven grandchildren include: Jeremy Coonradt, of Endicott, N.Y,; Andrew Coonradt of Fairport, N.Y., Monica Rufrano Reed (husband, Adam Reed) of Baltimore, Md., Dominic Rufrano (wife, Rebecca Rufrano) of Sinclairville, Sarah Saxton of Fredonia, Emily Saxton of Forestville, and Daphne Saxton of Beaverdam, Va. Mr. Saxton also leaves behind two sisters: Faith Carol Larson of Lakeland, Fla., and Joanna Fisher of Ashville; several cousins, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, John R. Saxton. Mr. Saxton was born in Stow, on Oct. 29, 1926, the son of the late Mildred and Wallace Saxton Sr. He graduated from Jamestown High School in January 1945, and entered the U.S. Army as a draftsman and surveyor that same month. He was honorably discharged in December 1946. Mr. Saxton owned and operated a dairy farm in Sinclairville, from 1957 until 1995. He also was employed by the Chautauqua Area Regional Transit System (CARTS) from 1997 to 2005. Mr. Saxton served his community for 27 years, first as a councilman for the town of Charlotte from 1966 to 1985, and then as the town of Charlotte Supervisor from 1986 to 1993. He was an active member of Park United Methodist Church, Sinclairville, where he served in many capacities over the years. More recently, he was an active member and trustee of the First United Methodist Church of Homosassa, Homosassa Springs, Fla. He and his wife were members of the Chautauqua Squares square dancing club for many years. Mr. Saxton was an avid reader and amateur photographer. He loved the outdoors, and never tired of the breathtaking views from the family farm. He valued learning, and enjoyed researching topics of interest on the internet. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. A celebration of Mr. Saxton’s life will be held at the United Methodist Church of Homosassa Springs on Wednesday, May 3, 2006; and a service of remembrance will also be held in Chautauqua County at a later date. His remains will be interred at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
