John Bartholomew Dupuy was born in Jan 1723 in King William Parish, Manakin, Henrico County, Virginia. He bought a patent for 400 acres on both sides of Little Nottaway River on 25 Jun 1747 in Amelia County, Virginia.(11) He bought for £30, 191 acres of a tract of 575 acres, patent by Peter Dupuy, from father Peter on 20 Apr 1750 in Amelia County, Virginia. (12) He sold for £20, 400 acres on both sides Little Nottoway Riv., adj. Watson, Jones, J. B. Dupuy patent 1747 on 20 Apr 1750 in Amelia County, Virginia.(13) He appeared on the census in 1782 in Amelia County, Virginia. He signed a will on 31 Jul 1790 in Nottoway County, Virginia.(14) He died in 1791 in Nottoway County, Virginia.

In the name of God Amen the 31 day of July 1790.
I John Bartholomew Dupuy of Nottoway County being weak in body but of sound mind and memory thanks be to God for the same and calling unto mind the uncertainty of the transitory life, and knowing that it is appointed for all men to die do make this my last will and testament in manner and for the following to wit:
Item. I will that all my just debts be paid and that my Estate be not appraised by order of court. I lend unto my beloved wife Mary Dupuy during her natural life my land and plantation whereon I now live it being the same which I purchased of John Guerrant also one featherbed and furniture called the Sally Trammel bed a pair of cart wheels a small hutch oven and one yoke of oxen two thirds of the value of said oxen to be returned to my estate.
Item. I give and bequeath to my aforementioned wife the household furniture and stock to the value of that she was possessed with at marriage (it being in lieu of the same) my desire is that my said wife have a reasonable maintenance in provision for herself, negroes and stock until she can make a crop, provided that she shall have no right to the same by law and will freely give up and acquit her right to twenty five barrels of corn which came by her.
Item. I have given and delivered in possession to my daughter Magdalene Watkins her heirs and assigns sundry Negroes & as her full proportion of my estate.
Item. I have given and delivered in possession to my son, John Dupuy, his heirs and assigns sundry Negroes & I also shall give and bequeath to my said son John his heirs and assigns the land and plantation whereon he now lives.
Item. I have given and delivered in possession to my son, James Dupuy, his heirs and assigns sundry Negroes, the land whereon he now lives & I also shall give and bequeath to my said son James his heirs and assigns my Negro man named Ben also my still, reserving as much of the use of the said still for my wife as will distill as much liquor annually as will be sufficient for her family use.
Item. I have given and delivered in possession to my son, Peter Dupuy, his heirs and assigns sundry Negroes, and I also shall give and bequeath to my said son Peter his heirs and assigns the land and plantation whereon he now lives including the tract my father bequeathed to me and also that I purchased of William Wilson and also one Negro named Beck and her future increase and after the death of my wife I give and bequeath to my said son peter his heirs and assigns all my lands which I have lent her. I also give to my son Peter one Negro woman named Dole.
Item. I will that all the residue of my estate be it in whatever kind or quality soever not heretofore given or lent lent be divided between my two sons named John and James their heirs and assigns in the following manner Viz. my son John his heirs & to have two thirds of the same and my son James his heirs & to have one third and after my wife Wifes death I will that whatever I have lent to her except the land be deeded in the same manner and form as above between my aforesaid sons John and James their heirs and assigns.
Item. I will what nothing herein contained be misconstrued for want of term or form in Law and I do hereby constitute and appoint my sons John, James and Peter Executors of this my last will and testament.

He was married to Esther Guerrant (daughter of Peter Guerrant and Magdelene) in 1753. Esther Guerrant was born on 2 Dec 1735 in King William County, Virginia. She died before 1765. John Bartholomew Dupuy and Esther Guerrant had the following children:
