 Genealogical History of the Rutherford Family by William Kenneth Rutherford and Anna Clay  Rutherford, published 1985:  pg 213:
 David P. Rutherford  son of William Rutherford  & Elizabeth of Burke and Lincoln Counties, North Carolina is:
 "tentatively designated as one and the same as the David Rutherford of Washington County, Indiana who married Mary Hyatt."
 NOTE: David Rutherford  and Mary Hyatt's eldest son is said to be: William Rutherford  aged 57 in the 1850 Federal Census of Washington Co., Indiana, so b ca 1793.

 William Rutherford's Will of the 18th March 1809 mentions only one daughter - Anny.
 However, William's 1790 Federal Census shows 2 Females and his 1800 Federal Census shows 4 Females so:
 Rachel, Nancy and Ellener Rutherford of the Lincoln Co., NC Marriage Bonds may or may not be daughters of William and his wife Elizabeth. More research is necessary.
 ITEM: *** DAVID P. RUTHERFORD
 Was named as the son of William Rutherford, Will Written 18th March 1809, Lincoln Co., North Carolina.
 The 1790, 1800 & 1810 Federal Census Records for the Family of William & Elizabeth Rutherford serve to delineate an approximate birth year for their son:
 "David P. Rutherford was b ca 1790."
 "William C. Rutherford was b ca 1793." Son of David Rutherford and Mary Hyatt.
 }
 CONCLUSION:
 The two Gentlemen "David P. Rutherford, b ca 1790" and "William C. Rutherford b ca 1793" may well have been "Cousins"
 But The Records Show: "They Were Not Father and Son."
