Dear Donald Clendenin,
Yes, we are kin—or rather you are kin to my husband as the Heards are of his line.
Edward Herd appears to be the immigrant ancestor, living in Lancaster County, PA before removing to Berkeley County Virginia, buying property there in 1772. Joseph is one of Edward and Jane Heard’s children—we have not yet established with certainty other children.
Mary Fugate, who has done most of the Edward/Joseph research, comes from the Elisabeth Heard Pettit line--- I was in contact with John Renshaw who is also of the Heard/Clendenin line. Mary is a Certified Genealogist and just this past summer read the original Property Tax list of Berkeley County which gives the proof of the father/son relationship of Edward/Joseph.
Should you be interested John Renshaw’s address is 39025 Juniper Tree Road---Palmdale, California 93551. (note from DEC: John is dead now. He gave me the picture of John Hurd Clendenin that I used in my book.)
Clendenin’s went into Grant County, Wisconsin about the same time as Hugh Heard and later descendants removed to California when the Bonham/Heard families moved and still later there was an intermarriage of a Clendenin/Bonham. You will notice the naming of Hugh Heard’s children—all the middle names are someway related to the Heards. Mary Fugate is now investigating the Bartons.
If you are interested in further information let me know.
Sincerely ,
Shirley Bonham
