Misc. Notes
The 1893 Quivira lists Nora May Rees from Minneapolis, KS. Unfortunately it does not list her in a "class" list because the art and music students are listed on one page as "Special Students" and in the School of Fine Arts section students are listed by major, i.e., she was one of 10 drawing and painting students. You are right about genealogy, it's like trying to solve little mysteries. I can't fathom how my grandfather Henry Bower, a widower in Fairview OK with a young daughter would have met Nora Rees, a student at KU. One of the other 10 painting students was from Kingfisher OK, a town about 15 miles from Fairview. Is this the unknown "friend" in the picture I have of Nora, did she spend time with her and meet Henry? I also recall my father talking about the Bowersock Mill in Kansas and there are several Bowersocks in the yearbook. I think the Hoisingtons who came to visit that once were connected to the Bowersock Mill. Well, I will never know for sure but it's fun to speculate. When I next visit Fairview, I will go to the cemetery and see if I can get more dates etc. from headstones. In the realm if irony, my husband's paternal grandmother was attending KU the same time as my paternal grandmother and I have to ask my aunt but I think perhaps my maternal grandfather's brother may be in this same 1893 yearbook.
